Position Overview

The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 5 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator and the co-Investigator, this position includes responsibility for the day to day data entry and file management for a set of research focused on reducing stigma related to mental health, in various workplace settings.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Execute research, through data acquisition, data file entry and file management
  • Work with others involved in the project, to ensure coordination among different personnel and to optimize resource use
  • Manage a data base of active participants, and ensure timely completion of data files
  • Recruit and train helpers to support the work listed above, as needed
  • Assist in recruiting other paid or volunteer workers to support the research efforts at the University of Calgary
  • Work to maximize the value, timeliness and effectiveness of data acquisition, analysis and dissemination
  • Participate in the preparation of materials to share the results of the research
  • Prepare reports of activities to the Principal Investigator of the project
  • Analyze data, and report these results to others involved in the research team

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Moderate quantitative data entry, management skills, using the statistical program SPSS
  • Some post-secondary education would be an asset
  • Experience in collecting, verifying, and reporting on data
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong commitment to the production of high quality data files and reports
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to work successfully within a timeframe
  • Ability to take initiative and identify the tasks required to achieve the desired outcomes
  • Resourceful, energetic, self-directed and creative
