Theatre Services in the Faculty of Arts is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time General Stage Technician.
The UTS technical staff provide support to the divisions of the School of Creative and Performing Arts and many other campus and community groups who use our performance facilities. With over 200 clients served a year, the job requires attention to multiple overlapping deadlines, focusing on a September through June peak period of operation. Communication, teamwork and flexibility are essential to providing clients with professional, courteous, and effective technical support in a timely manner. The work is often physically demanding and can involve exposure to potentially dangerous situations, including overhead stage rigging and work from ladders or powered personnel-lifts. This position reports to the Manager of Theatre Services. This position is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit. Shift work, often consisting of evenings and weekends, and overtime are a consistent element.
The General Stage Technician has to be able to operate the lighting and sound equipment as well as have a general knowledge of all other equipment used in our performance and conference facilities. The General Stage Technician has to be fit due to the amount of physical work required of this position and safety is priority. The ability to be flexible and to respond to change while interacting with clients in a respectful and professional manner is at the heart of the position. The General Stage Technician will be required to work irregular hours consisting of mostly evenings and weekends. This positions reports to the Manager of Theatre Services.
